We believe that children and youth face many settings in which they are evaluated, graded, or judged to be competent and acceptable or not; be it in school, social groups, sports or the arts. We also believe that the church, by definition, is a place where we don’t have to measure up or pass some test of acceptability. Our ministry to children and youth reflects that belief. “What” we do as youth groups is often meaningful and fun, but “How” we do it is just as important. In the Homer Congregational Church youth groups young people learn what it means to be accepted as well as to treat others with respect, compassion, and kindness, according to the teachings of Jesus. We trust that modeling the love for one another that Christ teaches can change lives and change the world.

The Congregational Children of God (CCOGs) is a junior youth group for grades 3-6. We meet twice per month to participate in fun, fellowship and mission activities. Some of our activities are shared with the older kids’ Youth Group, and we even do some things with families and anyone who wants to come along. New members and friends are always welcome! The CCOGs are led by Lori Schmidt, our Director of Christian Education.
The Youth Group of Homer Congregational Church is for youth in grades 7-12. This active group participates in mission activities, occasional study and discussion, and fun fellowship events. Each year in May the group takes part in a local community mission project and then travels on an overnight trip to a fun destination like Hershey Park, Pennsylvania. The Youth Group holds several fund-raising events during the year to help pay for this trip, and to support local and global missions. Friends are not only welcomed, but encouraged to join in Youth Group activities. The Youth Group is led and coordinated by Sherri Masterson.
